The Gardener (LXXXV)
Who are you, reader, reading my poems an hundred years hence?
I cannot send you one single flower from this wealth of the spring,
one single streak of gold from yonder clouds.
Open your doors and look abroad.
From your blossoming garden gather fragrant memories of the vanished
flowers of an hundred years before.
In the joy of your heart may you feel the living joy that sang one
spring morning, sending its glad voice across a hundred years.
-- Rabindranath Tagore
Poetry is like the distillation of emotion. A good poem can transport you to the place that the poet is writing about and a good poem can also make you have 'visions'.
Permit me to a little flight of fantasy along the same lines.
These words that I write in my blog they will forever stay here in cyberspace long after I go away. Some lost soul will come here, read my works and be inspired. He will accept my words as his religion. Thereafter, his life will change. My words and works he will carry to others and convert them to my disciples. He will be my prophet and I WILL BE GOD.

Is that by any chance the translation of 'Year 1400' (in Bengali that is) ???
I dont understand. What is 'Year 1400'?
Uh, it's by Tagore, in Bengali it's called '1400 Shaal'. According to the bong calendar I think this (2005) is 1411 or 1412.. and when RT wrote the song it was about 1300... so 'a hundred years hence' turns out to be year 1400.
hmmph, that sounds complicated :(
A Google search says that Kray is right. The original Bengali poem called "1400 shaal" starts with:
Aji hote satabarsha pare
ke tumi padicho basi amar kabitakhani
and the translated version which Samudrika posted is due to Tagore himself.
All these details have been lifted from this page.
:D yeah the 'Aji hote satabarsho pore' bit's a dead giveaway.
For ppl who don't know bong, that phrase literally translates to 'a hundred years after today'.
A visit to the dentist kept me away but interesting things were happening on my blog!
Additional note: The peom was written in 1300 which is 1896. In 1996, (100 years later) this poem was widely circulated and read in Bangldesh.
This pageis my reference.
